Novak Djokovic, the four-time defending champion, will begin his quest for an eighth Wimbledon title against the 67th-ranked Pedro Cachin on Monday, July 3rd. After winning his 23rd Grand Slam title at the French Open 2023, Djokovic is now aiming to break Margaret Court’s record of 24 Major titles. The Serbian tennis star is currently riding a 14-match winning streak at the Grand Slams, having won the Australian Open and the French Open earlier this season. Djokovic, the second seed at Wimbledon, arrived in London without playing any grass court warm-up events this year. His opponent, Pedro Cachin, is a 28-year-old Argentine player ranked 67th in the world. Cachin has yet to win a title on the tour and his best Grand Slam performance was reaching the third round at the US Open last year. He primarily competes on the ATP Challenger circuit, where he had his most successful season last year, reaching seven finals and winning four of them. Cachin’s highest career ranking was 54th in November. This year, his runner-up finish at the Madrid Challenger is his best result so far. He also reached the semifinals at the Perugia Challenger. In ATP events, he had a good showing in Madrid, winning three matches to reach the round of 16 for the first time in his career. This will be the first meeting between Cachin and Djokovic. The Djokovic vs Cachin match will kick off proceedings at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Monday. The match is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm local time, 2:30 pm CET, 8:30 am ET, and 6:00 pm IST. Viewers from different countries can watch the action live on their respective channels and websites. Djokovic is looking to surpass Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles this year. The Swiss maestro also holds the record for the most men’s singles titles at the grass court Grand Slam. Wimbledon, the oldest tennis tournament in the world, has seen many legends of the sport lift the trophy on its hallowed grounds, including Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Bjorn Borg, Rod Laver, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Venus and Serena Williams, among others. Federer currently holds the record for the most men’s singles titles with eight, while Navratilova is the most successful women’s player at Wimbledon with nine singles titles. Djokovic has tasted success on the grass courts seven times and is eyeing to break Federer’s record this year.
